Questions to ask yourself when selecting multicultural literature.
Is the author a credible source for writing about the target culture? You can usually read about them on the book jacket.
Is the author/illustrator part of the target culture?
Does the book have a "good" storyline?
Would my students relate to some of the life experiences presented in the book?
Does the book present a different perspective than what is commonly taught in textbooks?
Are diverse characters depicted respectfully?
